Custom Modular Patch Cords

Custom Modular Patch Cords

Major Custom Cable offers custom modular patch cords including Cat 3, Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6a, Cat 7, and coming soon Cat 8. Each cord is factory tested to ensure that every cord shipped meets component specifications.

Cat 3: For voice-only applications, an unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable used in telephone wiring.

Cat 5e: Cat 5e cables support speeds up to Gigabit (1,000 Megabits per second) Ethernet at 100 MHz. An enhancement of the previously released Cat 5 cable, the cable has been enhanced to minimize crosstalk. In addition, Cat 5e cables are best suited for installations in networks that change frequently, such as servers with patch panels, home and business installations where you are plugging patch cord connections from computers into wall ports, and other similar uses.

Cat 6 and Cat 6a: Similar to Cat 5e, Cat 6 and 6a supports Gigabit (1,000 Megabits per second) Ethernet, but run at a bandwidth of 250 MHz, which makes them ideal for business use. For homes and businesses that are looking to offer high performance connections, upgrading to Cat 6 or Cat 6a can help minimize issues with crosstalk and EMI on networks.

Cat 7: The next category cable, Cat 7, offers even higher levels of speed for applications requiring bandwidth of 500 MHz. Cat 7 cables are designed for better resistance to EMI, high power ratings, and less loss of voltage. For home use, Cat 7 can also be beneficial for smart home installations related to whole home technology solutions.

Cat 8: The most recent addition to the TIA’s standardized data cables, Category 8 is data center specific. Purpose built for 10Gb/s top of rack and end of row applications for distances up to 30 meters with large gauge conductor and heavy shielding. Its impressive 2Ghz frequency range will make it the leader in network performance speeds far into the future.

The EIA/TIA-568 standard has two schemes for how to implement modular connections—T568A and T568B. These standards establish the color code patterns in modular interconnects.
